Sweigart, Frantz Named 2026 Anderson Outstanding Senior Athletes
The Anderson University athletics department have named Michael Sweigart as the 2026 Anderson Outstanding Senior Male Athlete and Ella Frantz as the 2026 Anderson Outstanding Senior Female Athlete.
The Anderson University athletics department have named Michael Sweigart as the 2026 Anderson Outstanding Senior Male Athlete and Ella Frantz as the 2026 Anderson Outstanding Senior Female Athlete.
Sweigart has competed in track & field for four years with the Ravens. Frantz has competed in women's tennis for four years.
Sweigart emerged as one of the premier throwers in program history, earning multiple All-America honors while setting school records and consistently ranking among the top competitors nationally in the weight throw, hammer, shot put and discus. Frantz closed her career as one of the most accomplished tennis players in school history, earning first-team all-conference honors in all four seasons while finishing near the top of Anderson's record book in singles, doubles and total victories.
Sweigart has put together one of the most decorated throwing careers in Anderson University history, highlighted by two United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Second-Team All-America finishes in the indoor weight throw, multiple individual conference titles and school records in both the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer. He currently ranks seventh in the nation in the hammer and has consistently ranked in the top 50 in throwing events throughout his career.
As a freshman, Sweigart made an immediate impact in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC), earning second-team all-conference honors during the indoor season and honorable mention recognition during the outdoor season. He placed second in the weight throw at the HCAC Indoor Championships with a mark of 15.90 meters (52 feet, 2 inches) and added a sixth-place finish in the shot put at 13.38 meters (43 feet, 10.75 inches). During the outdoor season, Sweigart recorded a third-place finish in the shot put at 14.84 meters (48 feet, 8.25 inches) while also contributing scoring performances in the discus and hammer.
Sweigart's sophomore season marked a breakthrough campaign as he established himself as one of the top throwers in the conference. During the indoor season, he captured the HCAC weight throw title with a mark of 16.89 meters (55 feet, 5 inches) while also finishing second in the shot put at 15.57 meters (51 feet, 1 inches), earning first-team all-HCAC honors. He carried that momentum into the outdoor season, where he claimed conference titles in both the hammer at 53.65 meters (176 feet, 0 inches) and the shot put at 15.87 meters (52 feet, 0.75 inches). He also added a fourth-place finish in the discus at 42.39 meters (139 feet, 1 inches). Sweigart was named the HCAC Most Outstanding Throws Athlete during the outdoor season and finished the year ranked among the top 50 nationally in multiple events.
As a junior, Sweigart continued to elevate his performance on both the conference and national stages. He won the HCAC indoor weight throw title with a mark of 18.07 meters (59 feet, 3.5 inches) and added a fourth-place finish in the shot put at 14.05 meters (46 feet, 1.25 inches), earning first-team all-conference honors. During the outdoor season, Sweigart secured the hammer championship with a mark of 53.26 meters (174 feet, 9 inches) while also placing third in the shot put at 14.99 meters (49 feet, 2.25 inches) and sixth in the discus at 40.15 meters (131 feet, 8 inches). On the national stage, he finished ninth in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships with a mark of 18.85 meters (61 feet, 10 inches), earning USTFCCCA Second-Team All-America honors. He also garnered All-Region recognition in both the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer while ranking among the top 25 nationally in the hammer.
During the 2024-25 indoor season, he repeated as a USTFCCCA Second-Team All-American in the weight throw after placing 10th at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships with a mark of 18.63 meters (61 feet, 1.5 inches). He also captured the HCAC indoor weight throw title at 18.82 meters (61 feet, 9 inches) and finished second in the shot put at 14.99 meters (49 feet, 2.25 inches), earning HCAC Most Outstanding Throws Athlete honors.
During the 2025-26 outdoor season, Sweigart continued his dominance by winning the HCAC hammer title with a mark of 53.92 meters (176 feet, 11 inches) while also placing second in both the shot put at 15.76 meters (51 feet, 8.5 inches) and the discus at 47.45 meters (155 feet, 8 inches). He concluded the season ranked seventh nationally in the hammer and inside the top 50 in the discus, while also ranking second in the region in the hammer.
Over the course of his career, Sweigart set the Anderson school records in the indoor weight throw at 19.55 meters (64 feet, 1.5 inches) and the outdoor hammer at 59.94 meters (196 feet, 8 inches). He earned multiple first-team all-HCAC selections across both indoor and outdoor seasons, three HCAC Most Outstanding Throws Athlete honors and nine combined HCAC weekly awards. Sweigart is graduating with a degree in Engineering Management.
Frantz established herself as one of the most accomplished players in program history, earning first-team all-HCAC honors in all four seasons while finishing second in school history in singles wins (39), third in doubles wins (32) and second in total victories (71).
As a freshman, Frantz made an immediate impact by being named the HCAC Newcomer of the Year while earning first-team all-conference honors. She recorded 11 singles victories and 12 doubles wins, finishing the season with 23 total victories—ranking among the top marks in program history. She also ranked among the conference leaders in both singles and total wins. Frantz was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, beginning a three-year stretch of ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
During her sophomore season, Frantz continued her strong play by earning first-team all-HCAC recognition once again while recording 11 singles victories, which ranked among the top single-season totals in program history. She also earned Academic All-HCAC honors and was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
As a junior, Frantz elevated her role by competing primarily at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, solidifying herself as the team's top option in both formats. She earned first-team all-conference honors, picked up an HCAC Athlete of the Week selection and was again named an ITA Scholar-Athlete while continuing to build on her career win totals.
In her senior season, Frantz once again competed primarily at the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions, earning first-team all-HCAC honors for the fourth consecutive year. She added another HCAC Athlete of the Week award and Academic All-HCAC recognition while helping lead the Ravens at the top of the lineup throughout the season.
In the classroom, Frantz holds a 3.8 cumulative GPA and has been actively involved across campus. She has served as a photographer for multiple university departments and contributed in numerous roles, including Literary Arts Magazine Editor, KACE Tutor, Admissions Ambassador and Tour Guide, CSSCD Writing Intern, Madison County Prosecution Office Intern, Campus Activities Board (CAB) member and Chapel Video Coordinator.
