After Day 1 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate in Terre Haute, Women’s Golf sits in fourth place and Men’s Golf holds 11th.

Baseball Sweeps Manchester to Open HCAC Season
The Anderson University baseball team swept defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament champion Manchester University during Saturday's HCAC doubleheader at Don Brandon Field.
Anderson (10-7-1, 2-0) took down Manchester (6-9, 0-2) by a score of 6-1 in Game 1 and a score of 6-5 in Game 2.
"We're off to a great start in conference play," Coach Tyler Rubasky said. "It's hard to beat any team twice in this conference, but to open up with two wins at home against last year's conference champs sets the tone for us. We had two great starts on the mound. We were able to make some things happen offensively to give our pitching staff confidence to attack and pitch with the lead. Turning six double plays on the day definitely helps as well. We'll enjoy these wins [on Saturday], but it's back at it [on Sunday] with two more conference games to get at Bluffton."
In Game 1,Rhet Heckman (3-0) collected the win for the Ravens. He struck out three batters, issued five walks and conceded zero runs on three hits in seven innings. C.J. Williams walked zero batters and gave up one run on two hits in two innings.
Trey Dorton smashed a solo home run. Daniel Barreca went 2-for-5 with an RBI double. Dylan Hogan contributed a double while Griffin Wolf, Zayden Stiller and Landon Gum rounded out Anderson's seven hits with singles. Ian Potts delivered two RBI. Barreca, Hogan, Stiller, Kellan Bailey and Potts each stole a base. Anderson outhit Manchester 7-5 in Game 1.
In Game 2,Will Loftus crushed a two-run homer for the Ravens while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Hogan went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Dorton finished 2-for-3. Wolf produced an RBI double while Potts and Barreca rounded out Anderson's nine hits with singles. Manchester held a 10-9 hits advantage in Game 2.
Braden Richey (2-2) secured the win. He punched out four batters, yielded one walk and gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings. Leo McEnulty picked up his second save of the season. He fanned two batters, issued zero walks and allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit in one inning. Drew Doty struck out one batter, yielded one walk and surrendered one run on three hits in two innings.
Anderson battles Bluffton University (5-9, 0-2) in an HCAC doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Bluffton, Ohio.

Sweigart Wins Hammer in Polar Bear Classic
Anderson University men's track and field senior Michael Sweigart captured first place in the invitational flight of the hammer during the two-day Polar Bear Classic in Marion.
Sweigart fired the hammer 59.94 meters (196 feet, 8 inches). During the invitational flight of the discus, Sweigart posted a distance of 47.45 meters (155 feet, 8 inches) to earn seventh. Sweigart also took first in the shot put open with a distance of 15.66 meters (51 feet, 4.5 inches). Among NCAA D-III leaders, Sweigart ranks second in the hammer, eighth in the shot put and 11th in the discus. Anderson also recorded four additional top 50 performances in NCAA D-III.
Josiah Marshall claimed third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.71 meters (44 feet, 11.75 inches). Qi'yam Simmons locked up second in the shot put open with a distance of 15.41 meters (50 feet, 6.75 inches). He also launched the discus 43.23 meters (141 feet, 10 inches). Isaiah Buchanan earned second in the hammer open with a distance of 45.59 meters (149 feet, 7 inches). He also secured fourth in the shot put open with a distance of 14.61 meters (47 feet, 11.25 inches). Zaire Prioleau captured sixth in the triple jump after leaping to a distance of 12.67 meters (41 feet, 7 inches). Kyle Corbin raced to seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11 minutes, 10.1 seconds. Anderson fielded a 4x100 relay team of Myles Davis, Jaylan Seeko, Kaleb Eldridge and Elijah Stires, which charged to fourth with a time of 45.09 seconds.
On the women's side, Katie Ripberger took 10th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:15.64. The sophomore from Falmouth also sprinted to a time of 17.25 seconds in the 100 hurdles. Lai'Lonie Waller-Thomas claimed 10th in the javelin with a throw of 25.06 meters (82 feet, 3 inches). The freshman from Fort Wayne also launched the shot put a distance of 11.23 meters (36 feet, 10.25 inches). Ellasyn Bruner turned in a personal record in the shot put with a distance of 7.24 meters (32 feet, 9 inches).
"The weather was the nicest opening weekend to an outdoor season I've ever experienced," Coach Nic Huffman said. "It set us up to perform well and we did. There were so many good things that went on throughout the two days. I'm pleased with how we competed and we should improve from here. We will get some rest and get back to work Monday. I can't wait to see what we do this season."
Anderson battles in the Hanover Invitational on Saturday, March 28 at 11 a.m. in Hanover.
Tennis Sweeps Franklin
The Anderson tennis teams both secured Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) wins against Franklin College on Saturday in Franklin.
Anderson's women (5-7, 2-1) captured a 5-2 victory against the Grizzlies (8-8, 1-1) while Anderson's men (5-7, 2-0) locked up a 7-0 win against Franklin (5-9, 0-2).
On the women's side, Franklin earned the doubles point on a sweep, but the Ravens picked up five singles points. Ella Frantz took the No. 1 Singles point, Paula Torrent secured the No. 2 Singles point, Gabby Hosier claimed the No. 3 Singles point, Abby Cunningham earned the No. 4 Singles point and Ella Maiden provided the No. 5 Singles point.
On the men's side, Anderson began with a sweep for the doubles point. Martin Suarez/Pedro Sette took the No. 1 Doubles win, Arturo Mendoza/Luis Guerrero secured the No. 2 Doubles win and Davis Borders/Santiago Terbonati claimed the No. 3 Doubles win. In singles, Suarez earned the No. 1 Singles point, Ezekiel Bergen provided the No. 2 Singles point, Mendoza contributed the No. 3 Singles point, Sette produced the No. 4 Singles point, Guerrero secured the No. 5 Singles point and Terbonati claimed the No. 6 Singles point.
"It was a really good day for both the ladies and the men [on Saturday]," Coach Scott Greve said. "The result was what we were looking for against a really tough Franklin squad. Whenever you can get a road win, it's a good day. We still have a lot of work to do and need to fix some things, but overall I feel both teams are moving in the right direction."
Both Anderson teams face off with Hanover College in HCAC action on Saturday, March 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Pendleton at the Community Sport & Wellness Center. Hanover's men hold a 7-2 overall record and a 3-1 HCAC record while Hanover's women hold a 5-4 overall record and a 2-1 conference record. Anderson's men then take on Earlham College (5-3, 1-0) in HCAC action on Sunday, March 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Sport & Wellness Center.

Second-Ranked Trine Takes Two against Softball
Trine University swept the Anderson University softball team in Saturday's doubleheader in Angola.
The Thunder (13-1) topped the Ravens (3-11) by a score of 8-0 in six innings in Game 1. Tine then fought past Anderson 6-1 in Game 2. The Thunder are ranked No. 2 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA D-III poll.
In Game 1, singles from Jayda McKee, Kylie Coleman, Avery Owens and Maddie Schoenradt accounted for Anderson's four hits with singles. Trine outhit Anderson 8-4. Izzy Scott (0-1) suffered the loss.
In Game 2, Trine outhit Anderson 8-3. Schoenradt drove in Lindsey Pickering on an RBI groundout. Pickering went 1-for-2 with a walk. Ariannah Jones and Mia Flores added singles to round out Anderson's three hits. Hannah Merkel (0-3) was tagged with the loss. Scott also threw two scoreless innings.
Anderson faces off with Centre College (7-7) in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Raven Softball Field.

Women's Golf Holds Fourth in Great Lakes Intercollegiate
The Anderson University women's golf team holds fourth place after Day 1 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate with an 18-hole team score of 367 (+79) on Saturday in Terre Haute. Hannah Emenhiser is currently in 12th to lead the Ravens. The junior from Whiteland carded a round of 89 on the par-72 layout at The Country Club of Terre Haute. Anderson wraps up the Great Lakes Intercollegiate on Sunday.
Men's Golf Sits in 11th in Great Lakes Intercollegiate
The Anderson University men's golf team sits in 11th place after Day 1 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate with an 18-hole team score of 310 (+26) on Saturday in Terre Haute. Luke LeBourdais is tied for 20th to pace the Ravens. The senior from Saginaw, Mich. fired a round of 74 on the par-71 layout at The Country Club of Terre Haute. Anderson closes out the Great Lakes Intercollegiate on Sunday.
