Sweigart Wins Hammer in Little State Championships
Anderson University men's track and field senior Michael Sweigart captured first place in the hammer with a throw of 58.09 meters (190 feet, 7 inches) during the two-day Little State Championships, which concluded on Saturday in Marion.
The men's track and field team took 14th place in the team standings. Anderson women's team did not record a team score.
On the men's side, Isaiah Buchanan claimed seventh in the discus with a personal-record (PRs) mark of 53.06 meters (174 feet, 1 inch). Connor Etchison racked up three PRs, posting PR marks the discus (39.10 meters; 128 feet, 3 inches), shot put (13.60 meters; 44 feet, 7.5 inches) and the hammer (45.86 meters; 150 feet, 5 inches). Joaquin Bautista turned in PRs in both the 400-meter dash (56.98 seconds) and the triple jump (11.61 meters; 38 feet, 1.25 inches).
On the women's side, Jade Witt clocked a PR time of 22 minutes, 42.74 seconds in the 5,000.
Anderson battles in the two-day Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Championships in Lexington, Ky., with start times of 3 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 25
Rose-Hulman Secures Win against Women's Tennis
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (9-8, 4-1) secured a 5-2 victory against the Anderson University women's tennis team (6-9, 3-3) during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup at the Terre Haute Tennis & Pickleball Center in Terre Haute. Ella Frantz captured the No. 1 singles point and Gabby Hosier locked up the No. 3 singles point. Paula Torrent and Frantz also won their match at No. 1 doubles. Anderson closes the regular-season with an HCAC matchup with Transylvania University (9-4, 5-0) on Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m. in Nicholasville, Ky. at Top Seed Tennis Club.
