Tennis Splits with Hanover on Senior Day
The Anderson University men’s and women’s tennis teams split with Hanover College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday at the Community Sport & Wellness Center in Pendleton.
The Anderson University men's and women's tennis teams split with Hanover College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday at the Community Sport & Wellness Center in Pendleton.
The Ravens (6-7, 3-0) topped Hanover (7-3, 3-2) by a score of 6-1 on the men's side. Anderson (5-8, 2-2) dropped a 5-2 loss to the Panthers (6-4, 3-1) on the women's side.
Prior to the match, Anderson celebrated Senior Day, honoring Kenny Almanza and Jacob Davenport on the men's side, along with Ella Frantz, Jenna Jenkins and Ella Maiden for the women.
"This year's seniors are extremely special," Coach Scott Greve said. "They all started at Anderson the year before I got here. They embraced me as sophomores and made me feel like I had made the right decision to come to Anderson. They are a dedicated and disciplined group and I'm very blessed to have them leading our team this year. Their dedication and leadership are a blessing to me and their teammates."
On the men's side, Anderson secured the doubles point with wins from Martin Suarez and Pedro Sette at No. 1 doubles and Luis Guerrero and Arturo Mendoza at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, Martin Suarez earned a win at No. 1 singles, Ezekiel Bergen picked up a victory at No. 2 singles, Arturo Mendoza won at No. 3 singles, Pedro Sette added a win at No. 4 singles and Luis Guerrero secured a victory at No. 5 singles.
On the women's side, Anderson's two points came from singles play, as Gabby Hosier earned a win at No. 3 singles and Abby Cunningham picked up a victory at No. 4 singles.
