The third-seeded Anderson University men's tennis team (10-9) advanced past second-seeded Transylvania University (7-9) by a score of 4-0 during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament Championship at the Community Sport & Wellness Center in Pendleton.
Anderson clashes with top-seeded Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (14-7) in the HCAC Tournament Championship match on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Sport & Wellness Center.
The Ravens clinched the doubles point as Martin Suarez and Davis Borders captured the No. 1 doubles point while Arturo Mendoza and Pedro Sette secured the No. 2 doubles point.
In singles, Sette earned the win at No. 4 singles, followed by Mendoza taking the win claiming the victory at No. 3 singles. Suarez clinched the win for Anderson after capturing the win at No. 1 singles.
Anderson's match was the final match out of two women's semifinals and two men's semifinals. The match scheduled to start at 5 p.m. didn't start until 8:45 p.m. Anderson still managed to avenge its 4-3 loss to Transylvania last Saturday.
"It was a great win for the Ravens," Coach Scott Greve said. "Although our match got started late, the guys brought the energy early. We really didn't have our game last Saturday when we played Transylvania, but the guys were definitely ready [this Saturday]. Transylvania has a phenomenal program and whenever you can pick up a win against a team like that, it's a big plus, but we still have work to do. Our goal wasn't to make it to the conference championship. It was to win."
