Leer, Singleton Earn All-HCAC Finishes
After Day 3 of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Swimming & Diving Championships at the Vigo County Aquatic Center in Terre Haute, Anderson's women's team sits in fourth place while Anderson's men's team holds fifth.
Anderson women's sophomore Talia Leer captured second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 1 minute, 9.19 seconds. Leer's second-place finish earned her second-team all-HCAC honors. Leer also broke the 50 breaststroke school record by opening the 100 breaststroke with a 50 breaststroke split of 32.22 seconds.
Anderson men's senior Noah Singleton took third in the 400 individual medley to receive all-HCAC Honorable Mention. Singleton raced to a school-record time of 4:13.98.
On the women's side, Franklin College leads the HCAC standings with 627 points. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sits in second with 382.5 points and is ahead of Transylvania University (327), Anderson (276), Hanover College (115.5), Bluffton University (100) and Manchester University (29).
On the men's side, Rose-Hulman has created separation in what was a close battle with Franklin. Rose-Hulman leads the team standings with 586 points and is ahead of Franklin (431), Transylvania (403), Manchester (271), Anderson (187), Hanover (73) and Bluffton (0).
Anderson closes out the final day of the HCAC Championships on Saturday. Prelims is set to begin at 10 a.m. and finals are slated for 5 p.m.
Baseball Outlasts Sewanee in Shootout
The Anderson University baseball team (1-0) outlasted the University of Sewanee (0-1) in a 9-7 shootout on Friday in Sewanee, Tenn.
Griffin Wolf smashed a three-run home run for the Ravens in the top of the first inning. Anderson closed the top of the first with a 4-0 lead, but the Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. Each team scored a couple of more times each and the score was 6-6 through seven innings. Trey Dorton singled in a run in the top of the eighth. Tyler Pinson delivered a solo blast in the bottom of the eighth for the Tigers to even the score at 7-7. Zac Stawski drove in the go-ahead runs in the ninth with a two-run single for the Ravens.
Anderson outhit Sewanee 19-11. Stawski went 4-for-6 with a two-run single. Wolf finished 2-for-6 with a three-run shot. Dylan Hogan went 4-for-5 with a double. Russell Weaver finished 2-for-5 with a run-scoring double. Zayden Stiller went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Dorton finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Drew Doty (1-0) captured the win and Leo McEnulty picked up his first save of the season. Both Doty and McEnulty retired each of the three batters they faced. Tyler Rubaski earned the win in his head coaching debut.
The Ravens and the Tigers close the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
