The Anderson University men's golf team finished 16th place in the two-day Wabash College Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday in Indianapolis.
Anderson recorded a 54-hole team score of 926 (+62).
Senior Luke LeBourdais rewrote the program's modern record book, which dates back to 2011. LeBourdais fired a round of 68 in the first of three rounds on the par-72 layout at Broadmoor Country Club. The Saginaw, Mich. native then shot 73 and 76 for his second and third rounds, respectively. LeBourdais closed the tournament with relative-to-par modern era records for 18 holes (-4), 36 holes (-3) and 54 holes (+1). LeBourdais tied for 15th in the field with a 217.
"It was another great golf tournament," LeBourdais said. We've really been blessed with some spectacular opportunities to play golf this fall. It was very fun to play against these great teams. Playing against good teams is very helpful in our improvement as a team. My performance was very fun golf. It required me to stay focused on the present and not let myself get too ahead of myself. The putter was rolling very well and I made a lot of big putts for pars and birdies. I'm really grateful for this opportunity to be in the record books. Hopefully some great Raven golfers to come will break my records!"
John Mercer tied for 57th with a 231 (+15) after shooting rounds of 77, 75 and 79. Freshman Trent Nelson tied for 63rd with a 232 (+16) behind rounds 79, 73 and 80 in his 54-hole collegiate debut. The Marion native set relative-to-par personal records for both 18 holes (+1) and 36 holes (+8). Owen Mockabee tied for 90th with a 246 (+30) after carding rounds of 78, 83 and 85. Lawrence Long tied for 92nd with a 248 (+32) after shooting rounds of 80, 83 and 85.
Anderson returns to action in the two-day Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Preview, which begins on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Boone's Trace National Golf Club in Richmond, Ky.
