Ravens Claim Ninth in Players Club Invitational

The Anderson University men's golf team claimed ninth place in the two-day Players Club Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday in Yorktown.

Anderson recorded a 54-hole team score of 954 (+90). The Ravens started with 36 holes on Monday, turning in rounds of 319 (+31) and 324 (+36). Anderson then turned in a round of 311 (+23) on Tuesday.

Freshman Lawrence Long tied for 24th place with a 54-hole score of 234 (+18) to lead the Ravens in his collegiate debut. The Canal Winchester, Ohio native fired rounds of 77, 80 and 77 on the par-72 layout at The Players Club at Woodland Trails.

Anderson's three competing returners each set personal records during the meet. The remaining four Ravens made their collegiate debuts.

COACH DIJON KNIGHT'S COMMENTS

• I'm really pleased with the way we competed and finished the tournament. We really showed our true potential as a team following Round 3. After Round 2, we talked to the guys about eliminating our double and triple bogies and in Round 3, they listened well, as we only had six doubles, two triples and zero quads from the top five.
• In the third round, Owen Mockabee and John Mercer had nothing higher than a bogey. Luke LeBourdais had his best score and 13/18 greens. Lawrence Long had a great score even with a double par.
• Coach Cameron Bates and I are very proud of all of the guys and were really impressed with our two freshmen Lawrence Long and John Mercer for their individual performances in their first collegiate event. They certainly didn't play like freshmen. We're excited to carry this momentum from Round 3 into Forest Hills.
