The Anderson women’s track and field team claimed eighth in the DePauw Indoor Invitational in Greencastle. The Anderson women’s basketball team pulled away from Berea College with a 72-61 victory during Saturday’s HCAC matchup in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The Anderson University men’s basketball team fended off a Berea comeback with a 91-79 victory during Saturday’s HCAC matchup in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. Haney Repeats as 1,650 Freestyle HCAC Champion
Anderson University men's swimming and diving senior Reid Haney repeated as the 1,650-yard freestyle Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champion with a time of 16 minutes, 24.24 seconds during the final day of the HCAC Championships on Saturday at Vigo County Aquatic Center in Terre Haute. Haney garnered first-team all-HCAC honors with the finish. During the 400 freestyle relay, Noah Singleton opened with 100 freestyle split of 47.07 seconds to break a school record.
The Ravens finished fifth place in the team standings with a team score of 267 points. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology captured the team title with 857 points. Franklin College came in second with 624 points and finished ahead of Transylvania University (519), Manchester University (384), Anderson, Hanover College (98) and Bluffton University (0), which rounds out the team standings.
Waller-Thomas Breaks Weight Throw School Record
Anderson University women's track and field freshman Lai'Lonie Waller-Thomas broke the weight throw school record with a mark 16.27 meters (53 feet, 4.5 inches) during Saturday's DePauw Indoor Invitational in Greencastle. She captured first place in the event. Her performance ranks first in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC), fourth in the Great Lakes Region and 35th in NCAA Division-III.
Anderson secured eighth in the team standings. Waller-Thomas also claimed third in the shot put with a distance of 10.99 meters (36 feet, 0.75 inches). Katie Ripberger raced to fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.14 seconds. Hattie Harlow clocked a 1-mile personal record (PR) of 5 minutes, 45.80 seconds while Lyvia Salo posted a 1-mile PR of 6:08.92. Waller-Thomas was named the Anderson XCTF Performer of the Meet.
"We're getting better each week," Coach Nic Huffman said. "A lot of good things are happening. We still haven't put everything together, but it's improving. That's all I can ask for. It's a lot of fun watching our team grow and become more competitive. Good things are ahead."
Anderson battles in The Last Roar hosted by Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. in Cincinnati.
Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Fourth in HCAC Championships
The Anderson University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the fourth and final day of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships on Saturday in Terre Haute at the Vigo County Aquatic Center. Anderson took fourth in the team standings.
Talia Leer received second-team all-HCAC honors after capturing second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 32.17 seconds. Morgan Ferguson also earned all-HCAC Honorable Mention after locking up third (2:35.48) in the 200 breaststroke.
Franklin College cruised to first place in the team standings with 931 points. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology came in second with 570.5 points, finishing ahead of Transylvania University (502), Anderson (380), Hanover College (169.5), Bluffton University (144) and Manchester University (50), which rounds out the team standings.
Women's Basketball Pulls Away from Berea on Senior Day
The Anderson University women's basketball team pulled away from Berea College with a 72-61 victory during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Prior to the game, Anderson recognized Izzy Davis, Kylie Hendrickson, Bella Larrison, Sydney Sierota and Lauren Smith for Senior Day.
"It was great to get a win for our seniors on Senior Day," Coach Jon Gin said. "These five seniors have left an immense legacy on the Anderson Women's Basketball program and their impact will continue to resonate in the future of the program for years to come. I have no doubt that their contributions to society will continue well beyond their graduation. I am so proud of what our seniors have accomplished. They will be dearly missed."
Anderson (15-9, 11-6) dominated the glass by outrebounding Berea (12-12, 9-8) by a 59-43 margin. The Ravens held a 22-16 advantage on the offensive boards and outscored the Mountaineers 24-10 on second-chance points. Anderson hit 16-of-28 (57.1 percent) shots from the free-throw line while Berea made 6-of-10 (60 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.
Smith dropped a career-high 21 points to lead the Ravens. The senior from Muncie drained 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) shots from 3-point range and also blocked three shots. Victoria Detraz produced 12 points and 17 rebounds. Sierota racked up 13 rebounds and six assists. Larrison provided 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Davis tallied 14 points.
Anderson hosts Bluffton University (11-13, 7-10) in HCAC action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Men's Basketball Fends Off Berea Comeback on Senior Day
The Anderson University men's basketball team fended off a Berea College comeback with a 91-79 victory during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Anderson celebrated Senior Day prior to the conference. The Ravens recognized players DeMonte Ferguson, Elijah Mattingly, Jalen Bullock, Kenney Troutman, managers Joaquin Bautista, Owen Mockabee, student assistant coach Landon Bair and cheerleaders Ella Maiden, Kyah Crabtree, Leslie Trask and Sophie Bruce.
"It was great to get a win on our Senior Day," Coach carter Collins said. "We started out flat in the first half, but then built a nice lead at the end of the first half and into the second. We need to do a much better job of finishing these games out - we did the same thing on Wednesday against Hanover, built a big lead and then let the other team come almost all the way back. We'll take the win though and head into next week with a chance to clinch a share of the Conference Title."
Anderson (15-9, 13-4) led 66-46 with 15 minutes, 39 seconds remaining. Berea (9-15, 5-12) cut the lead to 77-72 with 6:57 remaining, but the Ravens put the game out of reach by responding with a 14-2 run. Anderson knocked down 15-of-42 (35.7 percent) shots from 3-point range while Berea made 9-of-31 (29.0 percent) attempts from the perimeter.
Troutman led the Ravens with 26 points after draining 6-of-12 (50 percent) shots from 3-point range. Mattingly produced 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. Bryce Williams provided 13 points, seven assists and one block. Nolan Swan tallied 17 points. Ferguson contributed six rebounds and two blocks.
Anderson and Transylvania University (16-8, 13-4) are tied for first in the HCAC standings. The Ravens clinch a share of the HCAC regular-season title with a win on Wednesday. Anderson battles Bluffton University (9-15, 7-10) in the regular-season finale on Wednesday in HCAC action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Bluffton, Ohio.

Men's Track & Field Finishes 11th in DePauw Indoor Invitational
The Anderson University men's track and field team finished 11th place in the DePauw Indoor Invitational on Saturday in Greencastle. Qi'Yam Simmons secured fourth in the shot put, recording a distance of 14.21 meters (46 feet, 7.5 inches). Kaleb Eldridge raced to fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.90 seconds.
Johnnie Behrends turned in a personal-record (PR) time of 2 minute, 2.02 seconds in the 800-meter run while Ryan Krake provided an 800 PR time of 2:10.74. Maxwell Cobb clocked a 1 mile PR of 5:10.62. Kyle Corbin contributed a 3,000 time of 9:35.47 while Cole Koontz posted a 3,000 PR of 9:48.71. Isaiah Buchanan put together PR's in both the shot put (13.75 meters; 45 feet, 1.5 inches) and the weight throw (14.26 meters; 46 feet, 9.5 inches). Eldridge and Corbin were named Anderson XCTF co-Performers of the Meet.

Sewanee Sweeps Baseball in Doubleheader
After falling on Friday, the University of Sewanee responded with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday to take the series against the Anderson University baseball team on Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn.
Sewanee fought past Anderson by a score of 8-7 in Game 1. The Tigers then picked a 12-8 win in eight innings in Game 2.
In Game 1, Zac Stawski went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Griffin Wolf drove in three runs and Dylan Hogan went 2-for-4. Kyan Miller (0-1) suffered the loss. The Tigers outhit the Ravens 11-8 in Game 1. In Game 2, Wolf went 4-for-5 with two RBI. Trey Dorton smashed a two-run homer. Will Loftus went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Hogan and Russell Weaver each finished 2-for-4 while Daniel Barreca and Stawski each went 2-for-5. Lance Coy was hit with the loss for the Ravens. The Ravens outhit the Tigers 16-15 in Game 2.
Anderson hosts Alma College (2-0) in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 12 p.m. at Don Brandon Field.
