Men’s Basketball Races Past Mount St. Joseph, Enters Tie for First in HCAC
The Anderson University men’s basketball team raced past Mount St. Joseph University 76-61 during Saturday’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

With Mount St. Joseph (11-9, 9-4) and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (12-8, 9-4) on Saturday, the two teams now join Anderson, Franklin College (13-7, 9-4) and Transylvania University (12-8, 9-4) in a five-way tie for first in the HCAC standings. Hanover College (12-8, 8-5) trails the five teams by one game in sixth place.
"I was really pleased by the effort and focus from the guys in getting this win to pull us into a tie for first place in the conference standings," Coach Carter Collins said. "Mount St. Joseph challenges you in a bunch of different areas, and I thought our commitment to and execution of the gameplan was pretty lock-tight after the first few minutes."
Anderson carried a 31-30 lead into halftime. The Ravens then opened the second half with a 10-0 run, creating a separation between the two teams for the remainder of the game. Anderson outscored Mount St. Joseph 46-30 in the paint. The Ravens held an 11-0 advantage on fast-break points.
Nolan Swan led the Ravens with 20 points. DeMonte Ferguson contributed 17 points and one block. The 6-foot-5 senior wing from Indianapolis knocked down 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) shots from the floor. Bryce Williams provided 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and one block. Elijah Mattingly notched nine rebounds, five points and two blocks. Kenney Troutman tallied seven points. Cedric Anderson produced six points and five rebounds while Will Jamison added six points. Aden Daugherty scored two points while Josiah Marshall rounded out the Anderson scoring effort with one point.
Anderson takes on Manchester University (3-17, 3-10) in HCAC action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in North Manchester.
