The Anderson University men's swimming and diving team finished fifth place in the four-day Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships, which concluded on Saturday at the Vigo County Aquatic Center in Terre Haute.
Reid Haney defended his 1,650-yard freestyle title by clocking a time of 16 minutes, 24.24 seconds. The senior from Goshen also earned the conference title 1,650 freestyle last season.
Noah Singleton broke four school records, setting the records in the 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle.
Anderson set four school records, 26 total personal records and 11 additional season bests.
COACH NATHAN MANLEY'S COMMENTS
- Anderson has led the conference in team percentage of career bests at the HCAC Championships during the last two seasons. While we continue to grow the depth of this young program, swimmers here are making great strides in the pool. That is a testament to their hard work and love for the sport.
- Reid Haney led the men in scoring anchored with his defense of the 1650 conference crown. He was also second in the 500 freestyle and 7th in the 200 freestyle. Reid helped the men to fifth-place finishes in the 800 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, and 200 medley relay, and a fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay where he posted a lifetime best split of 49.48 seconds.
- Noah Singleton decided to save the best for last. In the final meet of his collegiate career and maybe his swimming career. Noah blasted his personal bests in the 200 individual medley (1:55.19) and the 400 individual medley (4:13.98), finishing second and third, respectively, while lowering his own school records in the process. Singleton also led off the 800 freestyle relay (1:44.02) and 400 freestyle relays (47.07) posting personal bests and school records in those events as well. Noah led off the 400 medley relay in a personal-best time of 53.81 seconds. For good measure, he time trialed the 100 breaststroke and notched a personal best of 59.51 seconds.
- 8 of the 9 men posted at least one career best performance. Isaac Knost and Ethan Scialabba went 3-for-3 in personal best performances in their individual events.
- Freshmen Avery Wright and Camden Perrine crashed into the top 10 performers in school history with their individual swims (500, 1650 for Wright and 50, 100 freestyle for Perrine).
- We will sorely miss the leadership and competitiveness of our seniors. They have helped raise the bar on the record board, been outstanding student-athletes, and helped to establish a culture of excellence and character.
REID HANEY'S COMMENTS
- I'm just really grateful to have won the 1,650 freestyle again. It means a lot because that's what I trained for all season. Every hard set and early morning was building towards that race. To see it all come together and defend the title was just an amazing feeling. It makes it worth it.
- Being around this team is the best. We're in it together every day, grinding through practices and pushing each other to be better. One of the days you don't feel great, someone else pulls you along. Then at the meets, just hearing your teammates on the side of the pool gives you that little extra boost when you're swimming. That's something I'll always remember.
