Women’s Soccer Fights to Draw with Mount St. Joseph

The Anderson University women's soccer team (2-3-3, 0-0-1) fought to a 2-2 draw with Mount St. Joseph University (2-5-3, 0-0-1) during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in Cincinnati.

Elizabeth Birri put the Lions (2-5-3, 0-0-1) on the board with 25 minutes, 9 seconds remaining in the contest when she headed a corner kick from Mary Anhofer. Anhofer received the assist. It took just 32 seconds for the Ravens (2-3-3, 0-0-1) to deliver the equalizer as Mailee Cornette took it to the house for a goal.

With 6:20 left in the contest, Anhofer netted a goal assisted by Preslee Rugg to put the Lions ahead 2-1. Anderson responded with a game-tying goal with 5:08 remaining as Jessica Rogozinski placed a serve in front of the net and Kennedy Hurst delivered the goal. Thompson received the assist.

Mount St. Joseph is coming of a 2024 HCAC Tournament title.

"The team came back twice during the game, played for each other, and overall, it was a great start to conference," Assistant Coach Alejandra Gomez Nogueras said. "We'll learn from the things we could have done better and keep improving as a team to reach our goals."

Mount St. Joseph outshot Anderson 19-11 and held a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. Hurst tallied three shots and two shots on goal. Cornette and Izzy Cameron each contributed two shots and one shot in goal. Hannah Thompson and Emily Metzger put their only shot on frame. Cait Knepp and Natalie Marcum also added shots for the Ravens. Adrienne Weyers saved seven (77.7 percent) of nine shots.

Anderson battles Muskingum University (2-7) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Fridley Field.
