Baseball Tops Wabash

Landon Gum smashed a three-run double to put the Ravens (12-8-1) on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
Wabash (5-12) scored three runs in the top of the third. Ben Henke drew a bases-loaded walk. Landen Basey scored on a wild pitch. Will McKinzie then drove in Caleb Ellspermann on a sacrifice fly.
Dylan Hogan and Gum each singled in runs in the fifth to put Anderson ahead 5-3. Griffin Wolf then produced an RBI double in the sixth.
Will Fremion contributed an RBI single in the seventh. Later in the inning, Carson Vlcan drove in McKenzie on a sacrifice fly to cut Anderson's lead to 6-5.
Daniel Barreca singled in a run in the eighth. Later in the inning, Wolf delivered an RBI double.
Anderson outhit Wabash 15-6. Gum went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI. Wolf finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI doubles. Will Loftus went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. Barreca finished 2-for-4 and Hogan went 2-for-5. Donnie Sinkhorn ripped a double and Jon Dorsch rounded out Anderson's 15 hits.
Fremion went 2-for-2 with a double for the Little Giants. Ellspermann provided a double and a stolen base. Jimmy Hawksworth turned in a double while Henke and Landen Basey rounded out Wabash's six hits with singles.
Joe Wilson (1-0) locked up the win. He struck out one batter, issued two walks and allowed zero runs on zero hits in two innings. Lance Coy picked up his first save of the season. He fanned two batters, yielded zero walks and gave up zero runs on one hit in one inning. Gavin Owsley retired each of the six batters he faced, which included two strikeouts. Aidan Shoemaker fanned two batters and tossed one scoreless inning.
Adam Gaskill (0-1) suffered the loss for Wabash. Gaskill walked one batter and surrendered two runs on one hit in two-thirds of an inning. Miles Williams fanned three batters, yielded zero walks and conceded zero runs on two hits in two and two-thirds innings.
Anderson, which is 3-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, challenges Transylvania University (11-6, 4-0) in three-game HCAC series at Don Brandon Field. The two teams are set for a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. and a third game on Sunday at 12 p.m. Transylvania is receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com poll.
