Softball Captures Win against Benedictine

The Anderson University softball team split its two games on Saturday at Fortune Road Athletic Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

Wheaton College (Mass.) (2-0) shut out Anderson (1-1) by a score of 2-0. Anderson then captured a 3-1 victory against Benedictine University (1-1).

WHEATON (MASS.) 2, ANDERSON 0

The Lyons outhit the Ravens 7-2. Sofia De La Rosa (1-0) took the win. She struck out 12 batters, issued zero walks and allowed zero runs on two hits in seven innings. M.J. Harper (0-1) was tagged with the loss. She recorded one strikeout, walked zero batters and conceded two runs on seven hits in seven innings. Avery Owens went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and Harper finished 1-for-2.

ANDERSON 3, BENEDICTINE 1

In the top of the fourth inning, Ariannah Jones ripped a two-run single to put the Ravens on the board. Jayda McKee stole home to put Anderson ahead 3-0. In the bottom of the seventh, Jasmine Lozano singled in a run to give the Eagles on the board, but Benedictine was unable to complete the comeback.

Anderson outhit Benedictine 8-5. Owens went 4-for-4 with a stolen base. The freshman outfielder of Mooresville finished the day going 5-for-6 with two stolen bases during the two games. McKee went 2-for-4. Jones contributed a two-run single and Maddie Schoenradt rounded out Anderson's eight hits with a single.

Alyssa Perkins went 2-for-3 with a double for the Eagles. Lozano finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lauren Bogard added a double to round out Benedictine's five hits.

Jones (1-0) locked up the win for the Ravens. She fanned one batter, yielded one walk and gave up one run on five hits in seven innings. Mckenzie Johnson (0-1) suffered the loss. She struck out seven batters, issued two walks and conceded three runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings. Morgan Magnabosco allowed one hit in one and one-third scoreless innings.

On Monday, Anderson battles Dean College (0-0) at 2:30 p.m. at Fortune Road Field No. 3. Later, the Ravens take on The College of St. Scholastica (0-4) at 4:45 p.m. at Fortune Road Field No. 4.
