From April 7-12, the Anderson University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) successfully hosted a full week of events in celebration of NCAA Division III Week, highlighting the impact student-athletes have through academics, athletics, and service.
Division III Week is a national initiative designed by the NCAA to bring awareness to the unique experience of Division III athletics, emphasizing the balance between competition, academic success, and community involvement. Throughout the week, Anderson's SAAC created intentional opportunities for student-athletes to engage in all three areas.
The week began on Tuesday, April 7 with a nutrition workshop led by Professor Alisha Miller, providing student-athletes with practical tools and knowledge to improve both performance and overall well-being. The event encouraged athletes to invest in their health beyond their respective sports.
Wednesday, April 8 focused on personal and professional development. SAAC hosted a resume and LinkedIn workshop led by Professors Anna Rasco and Allison Reynolds, followed by a mental health workshop later that evening led by mental health professional and AU alumnus Mick Schoenradt. Both sessions emphasized the importance of growth outside of competition and created space for meaningful conversations, particularly around mental health.
On Thursday, April 9, SAAC hosted a former student-athlete panel with speakers Tate Ivanyo '25, Caroline Hill '26, Nic Huffman '09, Cory Evans '24, and Landen Southern '25, allowing current athletes to hear firsthand experiences about transitioning out of collegiate athletics. The discussion provided valuable insight into life after sport and highlighted the long-term impact of being a student-athlete.
Friday, April 10 featured one of the week's marquee events, as former NBA champion and Survivor contestant Scot Pollard visited campus. Pollard shared his journey through athletics and life beyond basketball, offering perspective and inspiration to those in attendance. He also shared many stories from his time on Survivor back in 2016
Saturday, April 11 continued to highlight the athletic experience, as the Anderson community showed strong support for spring sports, including baseball and softball doubleheaders. The day emphasized the importance of school spirit and unity within Division III athletics.
The week concluded on Sunday, April 12 with a joint Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and SAAC Service Day at the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Student-athletes came together to give back by cleaning and organizing shared spaces, reinforcing the Division III value of service and responsibility within the campus community.
"Division III Week gave us the opportunity to be intentional about creating impact across campus," said Josiah Marshall, vice president of SAAC. "From professional development to service and community engagement, it was a reflection of what it truly means to be a student-athlete at this level."
Through a combination of educational programming, community engagement, and athletic support, Anderson University SAAC successfully demonstrated the core values of Division III athletics. The week not only celebrated current student athletes but also strengthened connections across campus and within the Anderson community.
