SAAC Takes Third in 7th Annual HCAC Unified Bowling Championship
The Anderson University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took third place during the 7th Annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Unified Bowling Championship, which was held on Sunday at Royal Pin Woodland Bowling Center in Indianapolis.

The event saw over 60 student athletes from its 10 member schools and over 60 special Olympics athletes from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio participate. The day filled with laughs and smiles also showcased some top-notch competitive bowling. Unified sports give athletes with intellectual disabilities and athletes without intellectual disabilities the opportunity to compete together on a team. Each school had a total of three teams, with each team comprised of a total of four, two athletes with intellectual disabilities and two athletics without. Teams finishing first, second, or third in their division received gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively, while fourth through tenth place received ribbons.
Anderson SAAC partnered with Special Olympics Washington Twp. for the HCAC Unified Bowling Champonship.
"The Conference Unified Bowling event is always a great time to see how sports bring people together to impact lives," SAAC Advisor Jennifer Myhre said. "The Special Olympic Athletes love to compete as much as the students and it's nice for the athletes to give back and make the Special Olympic Athletes feel as part of a college team."
For Anderson's Team Orange, Javen Jones threw a bowler's total of 634. Katherine Custer compiled a bowler's total of 600 and Denzel Kelly recorded a bowler's total of 592. Jennifer Myhre tossed a bowler's total of 856 to lead the tournament. As a team, Anderson's Team Orange tallied a score of 2,682.
For Anderson's Team Black, Wes Crowe provided a bowler's total of 636. Jamie Shul put together a bowler's total of 630 and Aaron Mickle turned in a bowler's total of 548. Noah Labelle (Men's Soccer) posted a bowler's total of 635. As a team, Anderson's Team Black notched a team score of 2,449.
Overall, Anderson compiled a team score of 5,131.
Bluffton University's Mike Moore closed out the day with the highest three-game scratch total of 581.
Franklin College captured the team title with a score of 5,372. Hanover College came in second with a score of 5,252, finishing ahead of Anderson (5,131), Transylvania University (5,081), Mount St. Joseph University (5,073), Bluffton (4,962), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (4,869), Earlham College (4,850) and Defiance College (4,697), which rounds out the team standings.
