SAAC Takes Fifth in HCAC Special Olympics Unified Bowling Tournament
The Anderson University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took fifth place during the sixth annual Unified Sports Bowling Championship on Sunday at the Royal Pin Woodland Bowling Center in Indianapolis. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) partnered with the Special Olympics Indiana to host the annual tournament.
The Anderson University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took fifth place during the sixth annual Unified Sports Bowling Championship on Sunday at the Royal Pin Woodland Bowling Center in Indianapolis. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) partnered with the Special Olympics Indiana to host the annual tournament.
"Every year SAAC looks forward to the HCAC Special Olympics Bowling event," SAAC Advisor Jennifer Myhre said. "It's great for the student-athletes to team up with the local Special Olympic Athletes from Madison County and be Ravens together. Beyond the competition, the joy for the game and the camaraderie shared between everyone is always a highlight. We appreciate the conference recognizing the power of Unified Sports and are blessed to be part of it."
There were more than 60 HCAC athletes and more than 60 Special Olympic athletes who competed in the event.
The HCAC named the top five partners and top five Special Olympic athletes to all-HCAC recognition. Anderson representatives Adam Hughes and Brittany Jett both garnered all-conference honors.

Anderson turned in an overall team score of 5,044. Each school brought three bowling teams and the overall team score is the sum of the scores coming from the two highest-scoring teams from the institution. There were three divisions with a school fielding a team in each division. A single-team score is determined by adding the four bowler's totals from the team. Bowler's totals are calculated by adding the scores of the three games and the bowler's handicap. Since the bowlers threw three games, the scores Hughes posted a bowler's total of 715 while Brittany Jett contributed a bowler's total of 704. Anderson's Team White, consisting of Brittany Jett (704), Charlene Jett (632), Mackenzie Turner (613) and Mary Engbrecht (589), produced the highest single-team score for the Ravens with a score of 2,538. Team White secured fourth in Division III. |

Anderson's Team Black, represented by Emily Hale (652), Dagan Cecere (645), Coty Gouker (605) and Emily Buchman (604), put together a team score of 2,506. Team Black captured second in Division II. Anderson's Team Orange, consisting of Hughes (715), Janet Roundtree (589), Seth Nation (561) and Charles Keith (531), tallied a team score of 2,396. Team Orange finished sixth in Division I. Keith racked up Anderson's highest scratch score, throwing a raw three-game score of 501. Defiance College claimed first in the meet with a team score of 5,369 to edge Transylvania University by 11 points. Transylvania came in second with a score of 5,358, finishing ahead of Bluffton University (5,224), Manchester University (5,071), Anderson (5,044), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (4,976), Franklin College (4,953), Earlham College (4,763), Mount St. Joseph University (4,761) and Hanover College (4,713), which rounds out the team standings. |
