SAAC Takes Part in 5th Annual HCAC Unified Bowling Tournament
The Anderson University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took part in the 5th Annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Bowling Tournament on Sunday in Indianapolis.
Anderson partnered with Madison County Special Olympics for the event.
"The Conference Unified Bowling event is one of the highlights for SAAC each year," Assistant Athletic Director/SAAC Advisor Jennifer Myhre said. "It's a great way to see how the love of sports transcends all barriers and brings people together. The Special Olympic Athletes compete with so much joy, camaraderie and passion and they truly inspire us as well. I'm proud of the way the AU student-athletes give their time and make the Special Olympic Athletes feel like teammates and fellow Ravens. They are truly making a difference and leaving an impact on the lives of the Madison County Special Olympic Athletes."
Representing the Ravens at the tournament were Dakota Frauhiger (Football), Kreed Switzer (Football), Maggie Kolenic (Women's Soccer), Sabrina Morrison (Women's Soccer), Madison Stewart (Women's Soccer), Emily Hale (Volleyball) and McKenzie Turner (Volleyball).
"The HCAC Unified bowling tournament was an amazing experience and opportunity for HCAC athletes and Special Olympic Athletes," Switzer recalled. "It was also great to see our Special Olympic Athletes having such a great time."
Anderson placed eighth in the tournament. Each school competed with three teams of four and each individual threw three games. An individual score was determined based on each player's handicap. Each school's overall score was the some of the two best team scores from each school.
Fielding Anderson's Team White was Kolenic (680), Stewart (651), Hanna Thomas (582) and Shawn Parkhurst (554), putting together an adjusted team score of 2,467.
Representing Anderson's Team Black was Morrison (637), Hale (612), Janet Roundtree (586) and Adam Hughes (513), compiling an adjusted team score of 2,348. The Ravens totaled an overall score of 4,815.
Fielding Anderson's Team Orange was Anna Marie Thaxton-Hurt (632), Derrick Moss (581), Switzer (558) and Frauhiger (550), which recorded an adjusted team score of 2,321.
Anderson also had Turner (632), Niles Lumpkin (654), Dakota Gouker (645), Jason Jett (633), Brittany Jett (622), Charlene Jett (598) and Jacey Davis (594) competing as individuals.
Thaxton-Hurt turned in Anderson's highest raw average (143.67) while Switzer posted the highest raw average (134) of Anderson SAAC members.
Bluffton University's Tyler Connors finished with the tournament's highest raw average (192).
Mount St. Joseph University captured first in the tournament with 5,271 points. Bluffton claimed second with 5,233 points, finishing ahead of Transylvania University (5,133), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (4,958), Hanover College (4,957), Manchester University (4,887), Defiance College (4,867), Anderson (4,815), Franklin College (4,776) and Earlham College (4,768), which rounds out the team standings.
