Anderson Powers Past Mount St. Joseph

The Anderson University men's soccer team powered past Mount St. Joseph University with a 4-1 victory during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup at the AU Soccer Fields.

Nathan Schmeusser contributed a goal for the Lions (3-10, 1-2) in the 16th minute with Justin Ives on the assist to take a 1-0 lead. The Ravens (4-8-1, 1-2) responded with four unanswered goals.

"I thought we responded early Mount St. Joseph goal," Coach Scott Fridley said. "We started well altogether, but gave up another early goal. It has been great to see the freshmen continue to grow and learn. Regan Frost (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown), Noah LaBelle (Rushsylvania, Ohio/Calvary Christian School), Antony Rodriguez (Lawrence, Ind./Lawrence North) and Brayden Humbert (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) all started, played well and added to the team's success. I thought Race Williams (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) and Sean Cain (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe) had one of their better games. Hopefully we can use this to build off of to find success in the HCAC."

Frost delivered the equalizer in the 17th minute off passes from R.J. Macomber (Marion, Ind./Marion) and Williams. Cain put the Ravens ahead in the 69th minute after rebounded a saved penalty-kick attempts for a goal. Frost capitalized off a pass from Cain in the 71st minute to put Anderson ahead 3-1. Williams netted a goal in the 80th minute assisted by Aiden Lutterman. Frost totaled two goals while Cain finished with a goal and an assist.

Rodriguez put together seven shots, including four shots on goal for the Ravens. Frost registered four shots with each being on target. Cain turned in three shots including two shots on goal. Macomber, Williams, Nick Martin (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine), Daniel Collins (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) and Lutterman each put their only shot on frame. Sam Rowlison (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), Noah Keller (Mount Vernon, Ind./Mount Vernon) and Jaren Russell (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) each added shots.

Caleb Oliver (Marion, Ind./Marion) saved two of the three shots he faced during the opening 80 minutes, 25 seconds. Jackson Etheridge (Finneytown, Ohio/St. Xavier) relieved for Oliver for the final 9:35.

Chase Litzke (Plain City, Ohio/Fairbanks) led the Ravens with seven interceptions while Rodriguez paced Anderson with four steals.

The Ravens outshot the Lions 22-8 and held a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Anderson is scheduled for two HCAC matches next week. The Ravens tangle with Defiance College (7-6-1, 2-1) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Defiance, Ohio. Anderson then hosts Franklin College (4-10, 1-2) for Homecoming on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the AU Soccer Fields.
