Bio
Landen Southern enters the 2025-26 season in his first year as the Anderson University Pitching Coach.
Southern graduated from Anderson in 2025 and competed on the Anderson baseball team for four years. He received second-team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) recognition as a sophomore before collecting first-team all-HCAC honors as a junior and senior. As a senior, Southern American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) second-team all-region recognition. Southern is a three-time HCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week recipient. He was also selected as a 2024 NorthWoods League All-Star when he competed in summer baseball for the Rockford Rivets.
As a sophomore, Southern led the HCAC and tied for 26th in the nation with 91 strikeouts. He also tied for fourth in the HCAC in wins (6) and ranked sixth in the HCAC in opponent batting average (.252). During his junior season, Southern ranked second in the HCAC in strikeouts (81), third in opponent batting average (.242) and tied for ninth in wins (5). His strikeout mark tied for 47th in the nation. As a senior, Southern ranked 16th in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings (12.16) and 19th in the nation in strikeouts (91). Among HCAC leaders, Southern ranked first in strikeouts per nine innings, first in strikeouts, first in opponent batting average (.231), second in ERA (3.48) and tied for third in wins (6).
Throughout his career, Southern went 20-10 with one save, 11.31 strikeouts per nine innings and a .247 opponent batting average. He struck out 310 batters, issued 150 walks and allowed 151 runs (130 earned) on 233 hits in 246 and two-thirds innings. Southern has multiple seasons in Anderson’s top 10 in both strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings. At 310 career strikeouts, Southern is Anderson’s career strikeout leader. Among Anderson career leaders, Southern also ranks third in games started (47), fourth in strikeouts per nine innings, seventh in batters faced (1,153), tied for seventh in at bats against (944) and 10th in innings pitched.
