The Anderson University athletics department and Athletic Director Marcie Taylor have selected Ryan Doheny as the Anderson University head baseball coach.
Doheny spent the last two years as the associate head baseball coach at Nelson University in Arizona. He also coached at Crown College for 10 years, including five years as the head coach.
"We are excited to welcome Ryan Doheny as the next leader of the AU baseball program," Marcie Taylor said. "Coach Doheny is dedicated to the spiritual, personal, and academic growth of students and to the concept that coaching is ministry. His experience and passion for the game will help build on the rich legacy and tradition of RAVENS baseball. We are grateful God has brought Coach Doheny, his wife, and children to the Anderson family."
In his two years at Nelson, the Warriors made an 18-win improvement. In 2026, Nelson captured a third-place finish in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) World Series. Doheny coached three NCCAA All-Americans, including one first-team all-American. The Warriors also finished in the top 10 in the nation in batting average, hits, doubles, home runs and runs batted in under Doheny's mentorship.
"My family and I are beyond excited and humbled to accept the opportunity to serve as the Head Baseball Coach at Anderson University," Ryan Doheny said. "I want to thank President Dr. Scott Moats, Vice President Scott Cagnet, and Director of Athletics Marcie Taylor for their trust and this incredible opportunity. Clearly God is present and on the move at AU, and we will work faithfully to uphold the standard of excellence that Anderson University Baseball is built upon. I can't wait to work with the guys and do everything in my power to help them succeed, grow in their faith, and build a solid foundation for their futures. For decades AU Baseball has set the standard and I am honored to work relentlessly to continue that tradition."
After serving as the Crown assistant coach for five years, Doheny was promoted to Crown's head coaching role and began his first season in 2018. During his second season, he led the Polars to their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) playoff berth in program history, the first of four consecutive playoff appearances.
In 2022, Doheny led Crown to a UMAC Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament berth. The Polars put together a 30-15 record, a school record for wins. Doheny has coached the UMAC Player of the Year, the UMAC Tournament MVP, the UMAC Rookie of the Year, 18 all-conference players, 50 academic all-conference players, six all-region selections and one all-American during his head coaching tenure at Crown. Among NCAA D-III leaders in 2022, the Polars finished second in home runs per game, third in slugging percentage and sixth in strikeouts per nine innings.
Doheny graduated from Bethel University in Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies. He then earned a Master of Business Administration from Crown.
