It took three and a half hours, but the Anderson University women's tennis team grinded out a 5-4 victory against Indiana University-Kokomo during Wednesday's matchup at the AU Tennis Courts.
Â
Indiana-Kokomo (0-1) opened up with a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches. Katrina Berban (Seguin, Texas/New Braunfels)/Jasmine Blair (Clearwater, Fla./Homeschool/Largo) secured a point at No. 1 doubles.
Â
The Ravens (1-1) then rallied to a 5-4 win after scoring four points in singles. Berban, Blair, Clair Miller and Jordyn Roper (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) each scored wins. Miller and Roper earned both of their wins in three sets after falling in the first set.
"I'm really happy with the resilience of the team," Coach Bryant Beard said. "We came back from being down several positions this evening, but that's the beautiful life lesson with tennis. There are no time limits or clocks. You have to finish what you start."
Â
The Ravens then travel to St. Louis for a triangular hosted by Webster University (0-1) on Saturday. Anderson clashes with Webster at 11 a.m. and then battles Fontbonne University (0-0) at 3 p.m.
