INTERVIEW WITH COACH DIJON KNIGHT
1. How has the season gone so far?
The season has been strong, highlighted by two tournament victories and a third-place finish at the Forest Hills Fall Invitational in September 2024. Consistent performances have kept us competitive throughout both the fall and spring.
2. Anderson has seen two tournament wins, a third-place tie in the conference preview, and numerous strong scores this season. What has gone right?
Our emphasis on improving par-3 and par-5 play, along with enhancing our short game and increasing greens in regulation, has paid off. These areas were focal points during our fall training at Forest Hills and have continued to be priorities this spring.
3. What is your starting five and what do they bring to the table?
Our lineup includes: Luke LeBourdais – Junior with a season-low average of 77.9, providing consistent scoring. Lawrence Long – Freshman who shot a 71 at Forest Hills, demonstrating strong potential and poise. Maverik Mollenkopf – Senior leader contributing experience and steady play. John Mercer – Freshman showing promise with solid performances. A veteran leader whose experience has been invaluable. Owen Mockabee – A consistent performer, Owen uses his experience to lead course reviews before tournaments, helping the team prepare with confidence and focus.
Each brings unique strengths that contribute to our team's overall success.
4. What are your goals/expectations for the conference meet?
We aim to capitalize on our familiarity with Forest Hills Country Club to compete for the HCAC Championship title. Our previous third-place finish there gives us confidence heading into the conference meet.
5. What does Anderson need to do to be successful?
Maintain a strong mental game. Whether we're playing well or facing setbacks, we must stay focused on what we can control. Consistent focus on our short game, par-3 and par-5 strategies, and hitting greens in regulation will be crucial. Mastering these areas should position us for success.
