Smatlak Garners USTFCCCA All-Region Honors for Second Time
Anderson University women’s track and field standout Emily Smatlak (Lynnwood, Wash./Lynnwood) garnered United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Great Lakes Region honors for the second time in her career, which was announced by the USTFCCCA on Friday.

Smatlak earned all-region with a throw of 42.10 meters (138 feet, 1.5 inches) in the javelin, which ranked second in the Great Lakes Region. The senior from Lynnwood, Wash. currently ranked 14th on the NCAA Division III leaderboard. Smatlak's toss improved her school record that she set in 2019.
The USTFCCCA recognizes athletes for all-region recognition by ranking in the top five on the region leaderboard in an event. Smatlak also received all-region honors in 2019. She has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Field Athlete of the Week three times this season and four times in her career.
The three-day NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships is set to begin on May 27 at 10:30 a.m. in Greensboro, N.C. Smatlak qualified for the 2019 national meet as a sophomore and placed 18th in the javelin.
