Jones Delivers First Career Goal

As time was expiring, Anderson University men's lacrosse player Gage Jones (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) finished a setup from Mike McManus (Maineville, Ohio/Loveland) to score his first career goal during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) matchup against Hanover College in Hanover.
Hanover (11-4, 6-1) earned a 21-4 win against Anderson (1-11, 0-7).
"I'm proud of our effort," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "Several guys stepped up and played through adversity."
Caleb Spencer (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) notched three points on two goals and an assist for the Ravens (1-11, 0-7). Jones and Tristan Wilbrandt (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) each scored goals while Jonathan Orloff (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) dished out an assist.
Noah King recorded seven points on five goals and two assists for the Panthers (11-4, 6-1). Ian Kimmins posted seven points on four goals and three assists. Jackson Wheeler contributed five points on three goals and two assists. Colt Lambdin found the back of the net three times. Al Alessia provided three points on two goals and an assist. Dallas Fonner netted two goals. Dirk Meinhart and Tyler Kordesich each produced a goal and an assist. Patrick Boylston dished out two assists. Bret Schell and Mike Zoeller each added assists.
Schell finished a perfect 12-for-12 on faceoffs while Justin Wilson won 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) faceoffs. Jackson Parrish caused three turnovers. Schell collected seven ground balls while Meinhart and Max Kleiman each picked up five ground balls.
Zach Cocuzzo (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek) saved 14 of the 35 shots he faced for the Ravens.
Noah Dubrava and Sean O'Mara each divided their goalie times in half and both goalies tallied four saves on six shots faced.
Hanover outshot Anderson by a 51-19 margin.
The Panthers cleared 21-of-22 (95.5 percent) attempts while the Ravens finished 17-of-25 (68 percent) clears.
"We never gave up and I can honestly say this is the happiest loss I've ever experienced."
Anderson clashes with Mount St. Joseph University (1-13, 1-6) in HCLC action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium for an HCLC Tournament berth. The Ravens would beat out the Lions for the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament with a win by two or more goals. A one-goal win for the Ravens would have the No. 4 seed determined beyond the third tiebreaker.
