Spratley Racks Up Career-High 18 Ground Balls

Anderson University men's lacrosse freshman Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) racked up a career-high 18 ground balls during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) matchup against Earlham College in Richmond.
Spratley also won his faceoffs at a career-high rate of 73.9 percent (17-of-23).
"Jacob dominated at the faceoff X the entire game," Coach Jacob Ashton said.
Anderson (1-10, 0-6) fell to Earlham (4-11, 4-4) in a 15-6 decision.
"We started well and possessed the ball the ball a good bit, but we shot the ball poorly."
Tristan Wilbrandt (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) scored three goals and picked up six ground balls for Anderson.
"Tristan has one of his better games shooting."
Spratley contributed two goals. Jonathan Orloff (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) found the back of the net and Caleb Spencer (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) dished out an assist.
Joel Lee (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) collected seven ground balls and created three turnovers.
"Joel made some big defensive plays for us."
Cole Burrell notched eight points on six goals and two assists. Josh Perkins provided five points on four goals and an assist. Anthony Boutwell delivered five points on two goals and three assists. Joel Dominguez produced three points on two goals and an assist. Logan Reihing turned in a goal and an assist. Keith Coleman Jr. added two assists.
Burrell recorded eight ground balls while Dominguez and Hogan Modirzadeh caused three turnovers apiece.
Earlham edged Anderson in shooting 46-45.
The Ravens cleared 20-of-29 (69.0 percent) attempts while the Quakers finished 24-of-35 (68.6 percent) attempts.
Anderson held a 46-42 advantage in ground balls and won the faceoff battle by an 18-6 margin.
The Ravens committed 38 turnovers while the Quakers turned the ball over 32 times.
"We had too many costly turnovers and gave Earlham several transition opportunities, which they capitalized on."
Throughout the year, Anderson has played with a small roster and the Ravens played Saturday's match with 10 players and no substitutions.
"Overall, our depth has been our biggest crutch this year and we didn't have the legs to keep up."
Burrell and Dominguez each found the back of the net to give Earlham a 2-0 lead. The Ravens received goals from Spratley and Orloff to even the score at 2-all after the first quarter. Earlham rattled off four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead at halftime. The Quakers outscored the Ravens 5-3 in the third quarter and 4-1 in the fourth quarter.
Anderson challenges Hanover College (10-4, 5-1) in HCLC action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Hanover. The Ravens clash with Mount St. Joseph University (1-13, 1-6) in an HCLC matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium.
