Mount St. Joseph Slips Past Anderson

Mount St. Joseph University slipped past Anderson University with a 10-9 victory during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) matchup in Cincinnati.
"We lost to a team that wasn't better than us," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "We fell on bad habits, selfishness and blaming others. Our leaders failed to lead, our fundamentals were horrible and simply, our youth got the best of us."
Joel Lee (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) led the Ravens (1-9, 0-5) with four points on three goals and an assist. The Middlebury native notched 12 ground balls and caused six turnovers.
Tristan Wilbrandt (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) netted three goals and picked up six ground balls. Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) tallied three points on a goal and two assists. He also collected seven ground balls and won 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) faceoffs. Jonathan Orloff (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) scored two goals and Caleb Spencer (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) dished out an assist.
Eric Fisher (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) saved 11 of the 21 shots he faced for the Ravens. The Indianapolis native also recorded five ground balls.
"Eric played a great game for us in cage."
Mike McManus (Maineville, Ohio/Loveland) provided two caused turnovers and four ground balls for the Ravens.
"Mike continues to be a workhorse every game."
Josh Ekberg (Mahomet, Ill/Mahomet Seymour) tallied two caused turnovers and four ground balls in his debut match.
"For his first outing, Josh played great! I'm thankful to have him and his efforts."
Kevin McClanahan paced the Lions (1-12, 1-5) with six points on five goals and an assist. Tony Behler produced five points on four goals and an assist. Chucky Lipps turned in a goal and an assist while T.J. Ahrens added an assist.
Matt Stecht and Bo Kuenning created four turnovers apiece for Mount St. Joseph. Spencer Dufresne put together a team-high six ground balls. Collin Matt, Kuenning and Austin Lowery collected five ground balls each.
Lowery saw 21 shots for Mount St. Joseph and came up with 12 saves.
McClanahan put the Lions on the board in the second minute of the first period. Orloff evened the score at 1-all 33 seconds later. McClanahan provided another two goals to give Mount St. Joseph a 3-1 lead. Anderson put together a 4-0 run to gain a 5-3 lead in the second quarter behind pairs of goals from Wilbrandt and Lee. The Ravens led 6-5 after the second quarter and 7-6 after the third quarter.
A fourth-quarter goal from Wilbrandt put the Ravens ahead by two. Mount St. Joseph scored the next three goals with two coming from Behler and one provided by McClanahan. Spratley evened the match at 9-all with 4 minutes, 1 second remaining. Behler delivered the go-ahead goal with 3:10 left in the match.
Anderson faces off with Earlham College (3-11, 3-4) in an HCLC matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m.
