April 4, 2019
Hanover College locked up a Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) win against the Anderson University men's lacrosse team in a 17-3 decision on Wednesday at Macholtz Stadium.
An injury late in the first quarter forced the Ravens (1-7, 0-3) to take on Hanover (7-4, 2-1) with one less player.
"I haven't been prouder of our guys' effort [on Wednesday] than I have all season," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "We played a man down for three quarters and still managed to score three goals. We have been plagued by injuries all season; We have never been 100 percent in any of our matches."
Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) led Anderson with three points on two goals and an assist. He collected 10 ground balls and won 7-of-20 (35 percent) faceoffs.
"Jacob continues to show growth and his confidence is growing every day. He had two fantastic goals and was consistent at the faceoff X."
Jonathan Orloff (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) provided a goal while Joel Lee (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) recorded six ground balls.
Noah King notched nine points for the Panthers on four goals and five assists. Ian Kimmins posted six points on five goals and an assist. Patrick Boylston produced three goals. Jackson Wheeler and Dallas Fonner recorded three points each on two goals and an assist. Dirk Meinhart dished out three assists. Tyler Kordesich added a goal and Chris Higgins provided two assists.
Wheeler picked up seven ground balls. Brett Schell collected six ground balls and won 11-of-13 (84.6 percent).
Both teams played 12-minute quarters in the third and fourth quarter.
Noah Dubrava served in cage for Hanover for the opening 30 minutes and saved each of the four shots he faced. Sean O'Meara represented Hanover as goalkeeper for the final 24 minutes and saved one of the four shots he faced.
Eric Fisher (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) served in cage for all 54 minutes, saw 31 shots and came up with 14 saves.
"After starting slow, Eric really made an impact in the second half. He made some big saves and I'm proud of his composure despite being down early."
Hanover outshot Anderson by a 51-16 margin.
The Panthers cleared 14-of-19 (73.7 percent) attempts while the Ravens finished 11-of-25 (44 percent) clears.
Anderson ventures to Lexington, Ky. to take on Transylvania University (8-4, 4-0) in an HCLC matchup next Saturday at 4 p.m.
