Pioneers Shut Down Ravens

Transylvania University charged past the Anderson University men's lacrosse team with a 23-3 victory during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) matchup at Macholtz Stadium.
The Ravens (1-5, 0-2) have managed to progress as the season has continued and health has improved.
"I'm proud of our guys for what we have been able to accomplish thus far," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "[Saturday] was the healthiest we have been this season and despite a tough loss to Transylvania, I'm happy with the progress we are making."
Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) netted two goals for Anderson.
"I felt Jacob had a much-improved game. We ask him to do a lot from taking the faceoffs, playing offense and switching back to defense. He came up with some big plays and two really nice goals."
Logan Lawrence (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) also delivered a goal for Anderson while Tristan Wilbrandt (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) contributed an assist.
Zach Cocuzzo (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek) served in the cage and saved 16 of the 39 shots he faced. The Anthem Ariz. native picked up a team-high five ground balls.
Trenton Sneed led Transylvania (6-3, 2-0) with seven points on three goals and four assists. Nic Bailey score five points on three goals and two assists. Bryce Lowe notched four points on three goals and one assist. Connor Davis contributed four points on two goals and two assists. Peyton Bray and Quinn Fox each produced three goals. Sheymus Maloney found the back of the net twice. Chris Schaefer and Corbyn Buchart each scored two points on a goal and an assist. John West and A.J. Teague each provided goals while Alex Cherry added an assist.
Brey won 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) faceoffs and collected seven ground balls. Seth Wilson earned faceoff wins on 6-of-8 (75 percent) attempts. Lowe and T.J. Toivonen recorded five ground balls apiece.
Michael Webb started the first quarter as goalkeeper for Transylvania and didn't face any shots. Luke Garas came in for the remining three quarters. He saw nine shots and came up with six saves.
The Pioneers outshot the Ravens 68-15.
Transylvania cleared 7-of-10 (70 percent) attempts while Anderson finished 8-of-25 (32 percent) clears.
"Transylvania knew we have struggled to clear the ball and took advantage of that."
Anderson welcomes Wilmington College (1-5) next Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium. The Ravens then venture to Adrian, Mich. to battle Adrian College (1-5) next Saturday at 2 p.m.
