Wabash Rolls Past Anderson
March 21, 2019
Wabash College rolled past the Anderson University men's lacrosse team with a 21-2 victory in Crawfordsville on Wednesday.
The Little Giants (3-4) took advantage of Anderson (1-4) mistakes. The Ravens committed 43 turnovers while Wabash turned the ball over 19 times.
"This was our worst game fundamentally speaking and it showed," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "We dropped open passes, threw passes at open players' feet thus turning the ball over and giving Wabash too many easy scoring opportunities."
Jonathan Orloff (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) each netted goals for the Ravens. Caleb Spencer (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) dished out an assist. Mike McManus (Maineville, Ohio/Loveland) collected nine ground balls while Zach Cocuzzo (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek) picked up seven ground balls. Spratley won 10-of-22 (45.4 percent) faceoffs.
Steven Stark led the Little Giants with 11 points on six goals and five assists. Joseph Plencher and Collin Brennan each notched nine points on six goals and three assists. Chase Cochran provided two goals, Drayden Hansen added a goal and John Rodgers turned in two assists.
Rodgers recorded nine ground balls. Zach Larue tallied eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Cochran and Aaron Elsing created three turnovers apiece. Larue won 7-of-9 (77.7 percent) faceoffs while Rodgers earned wins on 7-of-15 (46.7 percent).
Wabash's Max Atkins saved six of the eight shots he faced.
Cocuzzo faced 36 shots and came up with 15 saves.
Wabash outshot Anderson 62-21. The Little Giants cleared 24-of-26 (92.3 percent) attempts while the Ravens finished 16-of-29 (55.1 percent) on clears.
Anderson, which is 0-1 in Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) play, challenges Transylvania University (5-3, 2-0) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium.
"You will never win a game playing like we did [on Wednesday]. I know what we are capable of and I believe in this team and what we are pushing towards."
