March 13, 2019
The Anderson University men's lacrosse team took down La Roche College in a historic battle. Anderson fought off La Roche in an 11-10 victory on Wednesday at Macholtz Stadium to secure the program's first victory.
The Redhawks (2-7) led the Ravens (1-3) by a score of 7-3 at halftime. Anderson outscored La Roche 5-1 in the third quarter to tie the game at 8-all after three quarters. The Ravens then capped off the match in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter.
"I'm incredibly proud of our team," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "We got down early and we fought back. For a young team to fight back like that and get the first win in program history is an incredible feat to say the least. I couldn't be more happy with the guys' effort on the field, the young leadership and staying composed. We had moments where some guys started to fall back on some bad habits due to being tired, but they overcame that. We really played a good game as a whole."
Tristan Wilbrandt (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral), Jonathan Orloff (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) powered to three goals apiece for the Ravens. Sam Ellis (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and Caleb Spencer (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) each contributed a goal and an assist. Spratley won 8-of-18 faceoffs and collected 10 ground balls. Mike McManus (Maineville, Ohio/Loveland) recorded five ground balls.
Joel Lee (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) created nine turnovers and finished with four ground balls.
"Shoutout to Joel Lee (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge). I'm really happy about how he played. Joel dominated his matchup and that was something we talked about. We really keyed in on our matchups and [Wednesday] was probably our best defensive match as whole."

Nick Sylvis scored three goals and Devin Wolford added two goals. McDanel won 14-of-24 faceoffs and earned 14 ground balls. John Aiello turned in five ground balls.
