Heidelberg Hands Anderson Loss

Heidelberg University Handed the Anderson University men's lacrosse team a 27-6 loss on Wednesday at Macholtz Stadium.
"I think we definitely played down from our abilities and what we are capable of," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "Heidelberg is a solid program and has a solid team, but I definitely would have liked to see more of an effort as a whole from our team. We weren't doing the little things right and that's where we began to struggle."
Jonathan Orloff (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) netted three goals to lead the Ravens (0-2) in his season debut.
"Jon was back for his first game and had a great showing at attack."
Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) scored four points off two goals and two assists. He won 10 faceoffs, picked up nine ground balls and caused three turnovers. Tristan Wilbrandt (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) dished out three assists and collected eight ground balls. Sam Ellis (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) delivered a goal.
Patrick McCarthy contributed nine goals for the Student Princes (1-2). Liam Weaver notched 11 points off four goals and 11 assists. Brock Hodson and Alex Bruder each provided eight points off five goals and three assists. Hunter Edwards turned in three points off two goals and an assist. Barry Middleton and David Weaver each produced a goal and an assist while Jaydon Septer added an assist.
Septer picked up 24 faceoff wins while finishing the match with 20 ground balls and three caused turnovers. Edwards earned nine ground balls. Chris Storrs totaled eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Zach Cocuzzo (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek) saved 21 of the 48 shots he faced for the Ravens.
"Zach had another great game in cage. He kept the defense on his back and did a great job."
Eli Allen started the first half in cage for Heidelberg and allowed four goals on four shots. Connor Reese served in goal for the next 21 minutes, 17 seconds and issued one goal on one shot. Howard Marusa came in for the remaining 8:43 and surrendered one goal on one shot.
Heidelberg outshot Anderson 75-19. The Student Princes cleared 14-of-15 (93.3 percent) attempts while the Ravens finished 7-of-25 (28 percent) clears.
"There were some bits and pieces and some shining moments. I'm hoping that we'll continue to get through these growing pains and begin to really start playing together."
The Ravens challenge Calvin College (2-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich.
