Anderson University men's track and field athletes Michael Sweigart, Josiah Marshall and Isaiah Buchanan each garnered United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors.
Sweigart earned his fifth career all-region selection, including his third selection on the outdoor circuit. Marshall and Buchanan are both first-time recipients of all-region honors.
The USTFCCCA recognized athletes for all-region recognition for ranking in the top eight in the region for an event.
Sweigart earned all-region honors in the hammer, discus and shot put. The senior from Alexandria fired the hammer a school-record distance of 59.94 meters (196 feet, 8 inches), which ranks second in the region and 11th in the nation. Sweigart posted a distance of 49.40 meters (162 feet, 1 inch), which ranks fifth in the region and 41st in the nation. He also recorded a distance of 15.76 meters (51 feet, 8.5 inches), which ranks seventh in the region.
"Michael has done an amazing job dedicating himself to be his best version," Coach Nic Hiffman said. "He has made all region again, and is much deserved."
Marshall received all-region recognition in the triple jump and long jump. The sophomore from Huber Heights, Ohio posted a distance of 14.55 meters (47 feet, 9 inches) in the triple jump, which ranks fourth in the region and 29th in the nation. Marshall also turned in a distance of 7.02 meters (23 feet, 0.5 inches) in the long jump, which ranked eighth in the region.
"Josiah had a really special day of jumping where he figured out a lot of things, both technically and mentally, in the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier. He stepped up to the challenge and still has a lot left. It's incredible what he has accomplished this year while only competing in the outdoor season because of basketball. I'm excited to see how he progresses the next two years."
Buchanan received all-region recognition in the hammer after launching the hammer a distance of 53.66 meters (176 feet, 0 inches), which ranks eighth in the region.
"Isaiah has picked up the hammer quicker than anyone I've known and to be all region in a new event as a freshman is a big deal. I'm excited to see his development the next few years."
Making his third career nationals appearance and his first outdoor nationals appearance, Sweigart competes in the NCAA D-III Outdoor Championships in the hammer on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT in La Crosse, Wis.
