Four Women's Lacrosse Players Receive HCLC Recognition in Debut Season

Anderson University women's lacrosse players CJ Pinyot (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian), Samantha Huber (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian), Mallory Housman (Evansville, Ind./Memorial) and Nadia Bentley (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) each received Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) recognition to cap off Anderson's debut season, which was announced by the conference on Thursday.
Pinyot was selected to the All-HCLC First Team while Huber and Housman were each named to the All-HCLC Second Team. Bentley was selected to the Christopher M. Ragsdale All-Sportsmanship Team.
Pinyot notched 20 points on 19 goals and an assist for the Ravens, while missing two of 10 matches due to injury. The senior from Indianapolis netted the first goal in program history. Pinyot has converted 5-of-10 (50 percent) free-position attempts, which is tied for fourth in the conference in free-position percentage. In conference play, Pinyot turned in 15 points on 14 goals and an assist.
"I'm really happy for C.J.," Coach Colin McSharar said. "Not only did she score our first-ever goal, but she's had to deal with a lot, both physically and emotionally. She was in her mid-teens the last time she played a full season of lacrosse. We'll miss her."
Huber led the Ravens with 28 points behind a team-high 25 goals along with three assists. The St. Louis native also led the team with 34 draw controls and 29 ground balls. Huber converted 8-of-16 (50 percent) free-position attempts, which is tied for fourth in the conference. She also caused 10 turnovers on the season.
In conference play, Huber posted team-highs in points (18) and goals. She dished out two assists and won 16 draw controls.
Huber was named the HCLC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring seven goals against Thomas More University.
"Samantha has been our go-to player, offensively. Typically, the best athletes on a lacrosse team play at the midfield. So, to have her talent recognized as a freshman is remarkable. She didn't even visit AU until this past June, so we're very lucky to have her here."
Housman recorded 19 points on seven goals and a team-high 12 assists. The Evansville native led the Ravens with 16 created turnovers and also collected 26 ground balls.
In conference play, Housman put together 13 points on three goals and a team-high 10 assists. Housman also led the Ravens with 10 caused turnovers and matched the team-high of 18 draw controls.
"Mallory has been a very well-rounded player all year. She's at the top of most statistical categories both offensively and defensively. And, she took the majority of our draws this season."
Bentley provided seven points on six goals and an assist. The Cincinnati native picked up 25 ground balls. In conference play, Bentley recorded two goals and 16 ground balls.
"Nadia came to us having not played lacrosse since middle school. She's a natural leader. She helped convince a few of her soccer teammates to come play lacrosse, enabling us to field a team this year. She's hosted overnights, chatted with recruits, and has the positive attitude we need in a captain. Though we had many women who qualified for the All-Sportsmanship Team, I believe that Nadia was the right choice."
Anderson compiled a 2-8 overall record with a 2-4 HCLC record to finish fifth in the conference. The Ravens are expected to bring back nine players on top of this year's incoming recruiting class.
"We have a good incoming class this year and we only graduate one player. I'm really looking forward to fall ball next year."
