Anderson University football senior Jake Simpson has been selected to the preseason all-home grown first team by Indiana Football Digest (IFD).
A native of Hobart, Simpson was selected by IFD among the best college football players who are Indiana natives and attend Indiana colleges. Selections are decided by the amount of contribution to a team's success regardless of division. After transferring to Anderson before his sophomore season, Simpson earned second-team all-HCAC honors during his sophomore and junior seasons. Simpson led the HCAC with 8.4 tackles per game last year. Among HCAC leaders, Simpson also ranked third in solo tackles per game (4.8) and fourth in forced fumbles per game (0.2). Simpson started all 10 games last year and put up defensive totals of 84 tackles, two sacks, seven tackles for loss, 20 tackle-for-loss yards, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups.
Anderson kicks off the season by hosting Alfred State University on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m.
