Ravens Cruise Past Earlham 45-15 for First Victory

RICHMOND, IN - Brady Cavinee (Batesville, IN/Batesville High School) threw three touchdowns and the Anderson ground attack rushed for 211 yards as Anderson University defeated Earlham College 45-15 on Saturday. The win snapped Anderson's 29-game losing streak, and marked the first victory for the Ravens since a 48-14 win at Earlham on September 24, 2011. The win also marked the first victory for head coach Bobby Ladner.
James Harris (Pikeville, NC/Rosewood High School) rushed nine times for 109 yards and one score, while Joshua Adkins (Huber Heights, OH/Wayne High School) ran the ball 15 times for 94 yards and a touchdown. Cavinee went 10-19 for 138 yards and three touchdown passes.
Marc Jones (Knoxville, TN/Proviso East High School) and Willie Robinson (Flora, MS/Madison Central High School) each caught two passes and had one touchdown. Jones tallied 58 receiving yards and Robinson had 26.
After Levi Hansen scored on a 37 yard rush to give the Quakers a 7-0 lead, the Ravens responded with 31 consecutive points to blow the game open. Harris tied the game with a back-and-forth 64 yard touchdown run just 17 seconds into the second quarter. With 4:03 remaining in the half, AU place-kicker Trey Boor (Brazil, IN/Northview High School) nailed a 35 yard field goal to give the Ravens a 10-7 halftime lead.
Anderson began the second half on fire, scoring three touchdowns in the first 7:12. Just over a minute into the half, Josh Balvich (Rensselaer, IN/Rensselaer Central High School) intercepted Earlham quarterback Brennan Laird and returned it for a 26 yard touchdown to give AU a 17-7 advantage. On the ensuing kickoff, Earlham fumbled the kick and Anderson recovered on the Earlham 24 yard line. One play later, Cavinee found Jones for a 24 yard touchdown, giving Anderson a 24-7 lead.
Following Anderson's next drive, Earlham fumbled the punt, giving the Ravens the ball on the Earlham 33 yard line. Five plays later, DeOntez Alexander (Indianapolis, IN/George Washington High School) caught an 11 yard touchdown pass from Cavinee to open the lead to 31-7.
Levi Hansen scored his second touchdown for the Quakers with 2:10 remaining in the third quarter, cutting their deficit to 16.
Anderson sealed the game early in the fourth quarter, as Adkins scored on a 12 yard run and Robinson hauled in a 23 yard pass from Cavinee for a touchdown.
Daniel Chrzan (South Bend, IN/South Bend Riley High School) punted seven times for an average of 43.9 yards per punt, including a long of 48 yards.
Defensively, Nate Moser (Bremen, IN/Penn High School) recorded ten tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss, and 0.5 sacks. Codie Flecker (Sheridan, IN/Sheridan High School) tallied nine tackles. Sammy Faulkner (Dayton, OH/Butler High School), Zack Moe (Cochran, GA/Bleckley County High School), and Charles Moss (Indianapolis, IN/Pike High School) each recorded seven tackles.
Anderson finished with 349 yards of total offense and 19 first downs. They owned a slight advantage in time of possession, 31:41-28:19.
Anderson will go for two in a row next Saturday, October 4, when they travel to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Game time is set for 1:30pm.
