Mattingly, Waller-Thomas Named HCAC Athletes of the Week
Anderson University men’s basketball senior Elijah Mattingly and Anderson women’s track and field freshman Lai’Lonie Waller-Thomas were each named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Mattingly was selected as the HCAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and for the third time in his career. Waller-Thomas was tabbed the HCAC Women's Throws Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
Anderson Men's Basketball (15-9, 13-4) picked up two HCAC wins last week in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The Ravens downed Hanover College (13-11, 9-8) by a score of 80-71 on Wednesday. Anderson then fended off a Berea College (9-15, 5-12) comeback with a 91-79 victory on Saturday.
Mattingly collected 20 rebounds against Hanover, which is the second-highest single-game rebounding total on record, only trailing his 21-rebound game on Dec. 18, 2023 against Trine University. The senior from Beech Grove closed the Hanover game with 28 points, 20 rebounds, two steals and one block. In Saturday's win against Berea, Mattingly notched 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. On the week, Mattingly produced averages of 22.5 points, 14 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. Anderson Men's Basketball is currently tied for first with Transylvania University (16-8, 13-4). The Ravens battle Bluffton University (9-15, 7-10) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Bluffton, Ohio. Anderson clinches a share of the HCAC regular-season title with the win.
Anderson Women's Track and Field finished eighth place in the DePauw Indoor Invitational last Saturday in Greencastle. Waller-Thomas launched the weight throw a school-record distance of 16.27 meters (53 feet, 4.5 inches) to capture first. The freshman from Fort Wayne broke the school record set by Betsy Lamb in 2016. Waller-Thomas's weight throw mark currently ranks first in the HCAC, fourth in the Great Lakes Region and 36th in NCAA Division-III. She also finished third in the shot put with a distance of 10.99 meters (36 feet, 0.75 inches). The Ravens battle in The Last Roar hosted by Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cincinnati.
